VISUALLY IMPAIRED? WORRY NO MORE!

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are an estimated 1.3 billion living with visual impairments in the world.

Nowadays, Tonosi policies are more targeted toward people with disabilities. This is because people start to see the importance of inclusion accessibility.

The challenges faced by visually impaired people can have a significant impact on their lives. Which can affect them from performing the same activities as non-disabled people.

People with visual disabilities often face barriers that restrict their interactions with web material, mainly because the web has generally a visual focus. Tonosi standards have been put in place to allow visually impaired people to have access to all digital information here on Tonosi.

Types of visual impairments

There are various forms of visual impairment which include:

GLAUCOMA - This is vision loss caused by the damaged optic nerve. It is also known as “sneak thief/stealer of sight” as they are not usually noticed until vision is lost. Unfortunately, vision loss resulting from Glaucoma cannot be corrected. However, if it is detected on time, the loss of vision can either be stopped or slowed down; hence it is vital to take a comprehensive eye examination as often as possible. Some persons are more susceptible than others, e.g., people over 60 or with a glaucoma family history.

REFRACTIVE ERRORS (BLURRED VISION) - This is a common visual disorder; the eye can no longer focus on the object it captures because the outside world attracts attention, resulting in blurred vision. This disorder comes in the following forms. Myopia (Nearsightedness) – objects can be seen clearly when closeby, but they are blurry when far away. Hyperopia (Farsightedness) – objects are clear when they are far away, but they become blurry when closeby. Presbyopia – occurs in people who are over 40 and are unable to read small prints or focus on objects close to them. Astigmatism – This gives the person in question a blurred vision caused by cornea shape. These situations can result from family history (genetics) and age.

CATARACT - This occurs due to the eye lens becoming cloudy, leading to poor night vision, especially during driving due to bright lights’ intensity from other cars. Commonly young children and adults experience this. Fortunately, the success rate of treatment is high and widely available. The risk factors for this condition include:
Age (above 60)
Alcohol and smoking
Diabetes
Excess exposure to sunlight

INABILITY TO READ SMALL TEXT ON THE WEBPAGE

Posted by TONOSI Administrative on 22nd March, 2023.

Tonosi policies has focused on the issue based on the difficulty of a small text on the webpage especially when users interact with the website especially when shopping for beauty products. This difficulty is a very barrier for vision impaired patient while interacting with the website. Due to this barrier, beauty companies has lost an average of $18.6billion dollars. Tonosi, we understand that although the statistical proportion of users who have a visual impairment is small compared to those who do not, we still must account for them during the design phase. It would not be fair, nor would it be right, to fail to incorporate designs that offer assistance and ease of use for those who have a visual impairment.

MANUAL INCREASE AND DECREASE OF THE FONT SIZE AND MANUAL AUDIO BUTTON

Posted by TONOSI Administrative on 22nd March, 2023.

Nowadays, there are a number of ways to better accessibility for the visually impaired, including magnifying software and providing the ability to adjust text size in web page. However, many people with low vision, especially older people who may be experiencing age-related vision loss, do not use magnifying software, and they may not be familiar with their browser’s text size adjustment options. This has prompted Tonosi to create a manual font-sizing buttons for the vision impaired to increase and decrease the font-size of the webpage.
This feature has been introduced in the product categories by increasing the font size when hovering over the item category. Some vision-impaired patients have difficulty seeing and understanding smaller text, this accessibility has reduced or completely eradicated the smaller text barrier.
One main solution to vision impairment is the activation of a button that can read aloud the text, description, direction of use and even the color of product selected to purchase and use. There is a large audio button that is in the product categories that reads aloud the whole website perhaps any difficulty is encountered by a vision-impaired patient.

NO ALTERNATIVE TEXT FOR VISUAL OR IMAGE CONTENTS

Posted by TONOSI Administrative on 24th March, 2023.

This is a very challenging barrier for vision-impaired patient due to their inability to access and understand any description of any visual contents in the webpage as an alternative whenever the user has a difficulty interacting with the webpage visual contents. Most beauty websites has introduced this technology, regenerating 13% increase of the annual revenue, from the analysis stated earlier, it has beem seen that an average of about 123.7Million people now has access to the website and can relate and interact with the webpage. This is no doubt that absence of an alternative text as a visual description is a very alarming barrier.
But worry no more, Tonosi Admnistrative has been able to create a technology for the vision-impaired thereby reducing or eradicating the barrier experienced by users. Often web content with images doesn’t have this description, and that is making it hard for a person with a visual disability to understand what’s going on.

WEB BUTTON TO VIEW FULL DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCTS

Posted by TONOSI Administrative on 24th March, 2023.

The function is to describe the content and nature of the image to the website visitor. The text description can be activated by a clicking button on the webpage, which will give the full and extensive details of the product including the QR Code to scan the product rather than going through the stress of navigating around the webpage.
This feature has been introduced in the product categories by categorizing all products into their respective categories making it easier for users to interact with the webpage rather than navigating around the webpage looking for a product they have seen but due to their difficulty, they have missed the products but categorizing the products has made the webpage more interactive and accessible to users
Once the View More button is clicked, the full details of the products will be displayed creating an option for the user to get the ddescription of the products even without the visual contents.

DIFFICULTY IN INTERACTING WITH COMPLEX DESCRIPTION AND PACKAGING

Posted by TONOSI Administrative on 25th March, 2023.

This problem is the most outraging out of numerous number of barriers experienced by a vision-impaired bacause it is a combination of two alarming barriers where the user when interacting with the webpage could not asked a question asking for the technologification of the mode of receiving the product and the mode of packaging.
Inability of having several options for the mode of receiving and the options for choosing the level of difficulty of the packaging which could make the user mess the package up during the process of opening the package. Despite having the difficulty in opening the package another related issue is the inability to select the mode of receiving the package such that the user will get to choose the how complex should the description displayed in the products received in the selected mode.

BRAILLE AND OPTIONS TO CHOOSE THE METHOD OF RECEIVING AND PACKCAGING

Posted by TONOSI Administrative on 25th March, 2023.

The first and primary solution to the difficulty in reading the description in the form of Braille that allow more accessibility between the user and the product. Some instructions or manuals written in a very small text giving rise up to 6.9 Millions people having difficulty reading the text-containing instructions or manuals. Due to this barrier, TONOSI now has an options that allows access to choose rather to recieve Braille packaging or a package with larger font size used in any form in the description of the product.
It is an obvious barrier experienced by a vision-impaired patient due to the inabilty to open or unbox the package in the carton, TONOSI Administrative has developed a technology providing the options for the receiving method the type of description manner that will be adopted for the users. The package-reciveing method comes with three options(how the product will be packaged or boxed.) which are the medium, easy and the normal mode of packaging. This mode selection is what will determine how the products will be packaged when delivered based on the options selected, the manufacturing and packaging company would have several simple and easy-access desugn for their packaging.

MOBILITY IMPAIRED? WELCOME TO THE FUTURE, TONOSI

The term disability refers to mental or physical conditions that cause limitations in a person’s movements, activities, or senses. The World Health Organization defines this as a condition of the human body or mind (known as an impairment), which results in difficulty in carrying out some forms of activities (activity limitation) and their ability to communicate with the world (participation restrictions).
Having looked at the meaning of disability, we can now say that physical disability is any deviation from the norm in an individual’s physical condition (impairment). This condition causes a general effect on a person’s mobility, endurance, or physical skill (activity limitation), which causes a reduction in the way and manner they interact with people around them and the world at large (participation restrictions). Some examples are injury to the spinal cord/brain, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, or epilepsy. But also Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) in the hands, rheumatism, or a broken arm.

Types of mobility impairments

There are various forms of mobility impairment which include:

CEREBRAL PALSY - The term, 'Cerebral Palsy', is used to describe a group of chronic conditions which affect body movements and muscle coordination in persons affected with the disorder. Cerebral Palsy causes damage to one or more particular areas of the person's brain, and usually occurs during fetal development or before, during, or shortly after birth; although the damage may be done during infancy. Cerebral Palsy disorders are not caused by problems in the person's nerves or muscles. Faults in the development or damage to motor areas in the person's brain disrupt their brain's ability to control posture and movement.

SPINAL BIFIDA AND MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY - Spina Bifida is a form of neural tube defect. Neural tube defects involve incomplete development of the brain, spinal cord, or their protective coverings, which are caused by the failure of the fetus' spine to close properly during the first month of pregnancy. Children who are born with Spina Bifida may have an open lesion on their spine where notable damage to their nerves and spinal cord has happened. Persons with Spina Bifida often experience a form of learning disability with physical and mobility disability.
'Muscular Dystrophy' describes a group of genetic diseases which are characterized by progressive weakness and degeneration of the person's skeletal or voluntary muscles used to control movement.

BRAIN INJURY AND HEART DEFECTS - Also called the acquired brain injury, that can occur due to damages to the individual’s brain after birth. They are often caused by several factors such as stroke, infections, cancer, or insufficient oxygen. There can be a different result of this disorder; for example, a person can have spasticity problems, which means their muscles can suddenly contract or tighten or have problems with their balance.
During early pregnancy, as the heart begins to form, a heart defect may develop as well. These defects might impact the function and mechanics of a person's heart. Some of the children who develop heart defects show symptoms of them promptly after being born. Others do not show any symptoms until early childhood.

DIFFICULTY IN NAVIGATING THE WEBPAGE

Posted by TONOSI Administrative on 25th March, 2023.

Research conducted by the CDC – Centre for Disease Control – discovered that 26% of adults living in the United States have some form of disability. That equals one in every four US citizens. This means that an estimate of 61 million people is living with a disability in more precise numbers. The statistics of the numbers are predicted to increase by 15% in the next one decade giving rise to the numbers but decrease in the interactions and accessibility to customers of a very high proportion. A very alarming barrier experienced by a mobile-disabled is the inability to move around the webpage without having to go through the steps of type-searching or accessing the previous page. This is a very barrier that every mobile-disabled would encounter one time or the other. As the webpage is a combination of multiple pages incorporated-depending on each other. Providing a technology and method to reduce or eradicate this barrier is a very great step-forward in the beauty industry.

\\\ SOLUTIONS

AVAILABILITY OF WEBPAGE NAVIGATION

Posted by TONOSI Administrative on 25th March, 2023.

A very vital solution to this is to make the webpage simpler, i.e the webpages should be well arranged and orderly rather than some beauty webpages that are too complex to comprehend and understand by the users. The simplicity has very well been adopted by the Tonosi Administrative to restructure the webpage to give access for more simplicityto the users. A disabled mobile-impaired would find it more difficult to navigate from thr webpage footer to the post section if only left with the option of using the computer-cursor.
Tonosi Administrative has introduced a on-screen keyboard techology to allow more accessibility and interaction with the webpage. The technology has been provided and available for download HERE which has been tested by several industries making a very massive return just by introducing this vast problem solving idea. The keyboard can be used to perform some certain actions like use of the ALT text, using the keyboard to enter a search keyword in the webpage and use the Tonosi keyboard shortcuts for the mobile-disabled.

DIFFICULTY IN OPENING PACKAGED DELIVERED PRODUCT AND COMPLE USAGE PROCEDURES

Posted by TONOSI Administrative on 29th March, 2023.

As in any situation, people adapt to their living situation and capabilities. However, giving people with physical disabilities the tools to access all the content will have a substantial positive impact on their lives and doesn’t cost a lot of work from the Tonosi Admnistrative. There are many easy-to-use tools and solutions nowadays. Not only do individuals see the benefits of full web accessibility, but companies of different focus also agreed to work together to make web accessibility a reality across the world.
One of the accessibilities developed by Tonosi is the selection of the level of packaging of products from the producers to the consumers. This accessibility was identified due to the barrier and difficulty experienced from our users and customers from the feedback receive from a large number of users making it a concern to handle and find a relating-issue technology to reduce or eradicate this barrier. This has been an alarming barrier caught on our notice has caused on an average of 22% of U.S.A adults lack full accessibility to the webpage, a large percentage to be ignored but rather an accessibility has been developed.

SIMPLER PACKAGING METHOD AND TARGET-USER PRODUCTS DESIGN

Posted by TONOSI Administrative on 29th March, 2023.

The solution to this barrier is by no means debatable that it is needed to be addressed and solved with proper technology and idea needed. Having a large population of people suffering from this impairment which has also caused a difficulty in opening of tightly or complexly packaged products right from the designing or packaging of the product in an unfriendly structure, Tonosi Admnistrative has a button that gives users the chance of getting to choose the level of packaging-difficulty based on their type of mobility impairment. Here, in Tonosi, an accessible feature for managing the level of packaging has been predicted that in 2033, to reduce the percentage of the mobile-impaired accessibility from 22% to about 3.5% a great impact that cannot be ignored.
With this technology adopted to eradicate the barrier encountered, as the level of packaging can be reduced, there has been an idea that production companies should hire or give more training to the product designing department in the industry whereby products will be designed with more simplicity to be used by targeted customers. With proper designing right from the producers, there's the prediction, the total percentage of mobile-impaired lacking access to the webpage will be reduced to about 1.1% of the adult in the U.S.A.
